in xbox live what to do if your IP address connection failed?

ok like i plugged my ethernet cable up to my router and it said i couldn,t connect, so i went to test connection and i did. so when it got there it said the connection was wired but when it went to IP address it failed. so i went to edit settings and it showed my IP address and then i went to additional settings and i had no PPPOE user name, where do i get one?

  1. PPPoE stands for Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet.

    Unless your connection from your ISP requires you to logon with a user name and password to access the internet (such as DSL services), you do not need to configure your console for PPPoE.

    This is especially true if you’ve posted your question through the same internet connection managed by the same router on your computer.

    On the console, try turning PPPoE off. In addition, set your IP and DNS settings on your console to “automatic.” Then try connecting again.

    Since you are connected through a router, the router should be configured with those settings, if applicable, anyways.
