Learning how to repair your XBox will save you a lot of Money. Microsoft will not tell you how to fix any type of error. They’ll ask you to send your system back to them for repair, of course. The typical cost for a repair can be as much as $140 plus shipping and handling. Also, they do not always guarantee a fix!
One problem that plagues this great console and is so widespread that it has even been given it’s own name among the gaming community – the dreaded red ring of death. This fault is named so because three of the normally green lights on the front of the console turn to flashing red which indicates a general hardware failure. This seems to be the most common problem and is thought to be caused by built up heat inside the unit. However, this can easily fixed and by yourself.
Many people, including myself, have had the same 3 red light problem and spent god knows how many hours fighting for answers with Microsoft’s *spectacular* help line. They recommend to ship the 360 back for repairs, wait 4 weeks (or longer), and shell out $140.00 for the “repair” cost, which they don’t tell you till you give them all your information. If your like me I found this to be out of my range of things im willing to do, seeing as how they can’t even give you a guarantee.
So if the warranty period of your console has lapsed or if the original warranty only covered the first ninety days, then don’t panic. You could very well repair the console all by yourself; all you need is the right guide and information. You would not need to spend a lot of money sending the console in for repairs and then wait for weeks and at times even months before it returns to you, for an error that shouldn’t have taken place at all. And even if you have sent it for repairs there is no guarantee what so ever that the console will be a 100% when it returns. So I say don’t even waste your time with Microsoft and just learn to do it yourself.
Have you ever ran into the “red ring” problem? I know I did with my 360 and it cost me $140 and when it came back (in 2 months) it took it another year to mess up again. I did some research and found the only way to fix this by yourself. You can fix this by yourself by visiting here zach1201.wordpress.com/2008/05/16/how-to-repair-a-xbox-360.
