  1. Folding@HOME is a collaboration between PS3, PC users and Stanford.

Instead of having 1 mega-computer doing all the computations and whatnot for understanding how proteins fold, and how a misfolding causing genetic diseases, the computations will be done by millions of PS3s and PCs. Each team or console/PC will do a certain part of the folding and then send the info back to Stanford, and Stanford will process all the individual chunks of data.

Think of this as a Borg. Stanford is the Mother Borg and each PC/PS3 is a Borg. Whatever the PS3/PC learns, it sends it back to the Mother Borg, and then the Mother Borg processes the information.

You don’t do anything. You let the PS3 run overnight or whatever amount of time you want, and the PS3 does all the work. I guess you can watch the process, but it’s not very exciting.
